Dr. Roland Pesch was born on May 6th 1967 in Kiel, Schleswig-Holstein. His school education started nearby Kiel, was then carried on for four years in Washington D.C. (USA) and finished in Linz (Rhine), Rhineland-Palatinate. Roland Pesch studied Geography at the Christians-Albrecht-University in Kiel specialising in Landscape ecology, hydrology and GIS. From 2000 up to now he is working as a research assistant for the application of database applications, (geo)statistics as well as GIS-methods with regard to terrestrial and marine monitoring issues at the Chair of Landscape Ecology, University of Vechta. In 2003 he finished his doctoral thesis on the calculation of indicators for metal bioaccumulation in terrestrial ecosystems with help of multivariate statistics and geostatistics. Currently, he is responsible for the coordination of the German Heavy Metals in Mosses Survey which is part of the EMEP/ECE-Project Atmospheric Heavy Metal Deposition in Europe – Estimations Based on Moss Analysis coordinated by the ICP Vegetation in Bangor, Wales.
