Ron Lake is credited with 30 years experience in the development of advanced software systems, including more than 20 years in advanced database, and spatial information systems. He is a founding member of the Open GIS Consortium (OGC), the creator of Geography Markup Language (GML), and chair of the GML Special Interest Group. An acknowledged industry leader and technology innovator, Ron has written and spoken extensively on spatial technologies and the Internet. In particular, Ron is a regular column contributor to GeoWorld Magazine and is the lead author of the book, Geography Markup Language: Foundation for the Geo-Web, published in 2004 by John Wiley and Sons. Additionally, Ron received OGC's fourth annual Kenneth G. Gardels Award. Awarded in 2002, in recognition of outstanding contribution in advancing OGC's vision of geographic information fully integrated into the world's information systems. Today, Mr. Lake is Chairman and CEO of Galdos Systems Inc. (www.galdosinc.com), a company that he founded in 1998 to develop XML and web services technology for wide area geographic information systems and data warehouses.
