Matthew Fleagle serves LizardTech's development team as senior technical writer and embedded reporter. He works with the company's software engineers to create documentation for all products and writes or edits white papers, articles and corporate collateral. Fleagle researches technical communication methods and tools to benefit LizardTech and its user community. As an unfledged geek, he is working toward his XML boy scout badge by leading the company's migration to XML-based Help authoring and developing an XML schema for knowledge bases. Before joining LizardTech's development team Fleagle served as a marketing copywriter. In the five years he has been with LizardTech he has collaborated many times with co-author Michael P. Gerlek. Fleagle began a career in journalism after receiving a BA in English from the University of Washington. He wrote feature articles for award-winning newspapers and magazines in Seattle and other regional and industry publications. Fleagle moved into marketing writing for many years, honing his skill at tailoring messages to targeted audiences. During transition periods between careers, he has indulged in brief side-careers such as horse-wrangling, plant propagation and other outdoor enterprises. Fleagle is a member of the Society for Technical Communication.
