Short Biography

Peter de Smet is a senior scientist dealing with environmental data management and coordinational issues at the European Topic Centre on Air and Climate Change (ETC/ACC) of the European Environmnent Agency (EEA) located at the Netherlands Environment Assessment Agency (MNP, which separated on 1 January 2006 from RIVM) since June 2001 as the ETC/ACC Data Manager. 1988: University degree on Soil Science and Soil Fertilizer Use (Agricultural University Wageningen): expertises on soil science; soil fertility and quality and plant nutrition; GIS; remote sensing; geomorphology. 1988-90: Information analyst at research department of ministry for agriculture and fisheries on rural area related data flows and usage throughout the Dutch agricultural ministry and Dutch research institutes. 1990 – 2001, Coordination Center for Effects at the National Istitiute for Public health and the Environment (RIVM) under the WGE, TFMM and TFIAM of the LRTAP Convention of the UNECE: international air pollution effects data management (collecting, harmonisation and elaboration), modelling and integrated assessment. Since 2001: ETC/ACC Data Manager on international air quality data management and application, development methodologies on spatial air quality interpolation, co-ordination data flows, web site building and content management, environmental indicators, EEA user community (EIONET) management and development involvement (IT, concepts, content population).
